Do You Need a Resume Review or a Rewrite? A Tech Sales Decision Checklist

The more expensive resume service is not automatically the better choice. First identify the problem you need solved. A readable draft with strong evidence may need a second opinion. A document aimed at several unrelated roles may need reconstruction. A candidate who has not chosen a target role may need to make that decision before buying either service.

Check the target before the writing

Choose one representative job description and identify the evidence it asks for. If you are applying to SDR, AE, and sales engineering roles with the same undifferentiated resume, the first decision is which role this version should serve.

Reviewers can help clarify positioning, but they cannot choose your career goals for you. They also cannot turn missing experience into completed work. Keep employment history, job titles, and achievements accurate whichever route you choose.

Check whether the evidence exists

For each important bullet, ask what you did, what happened, and how you know. If you have the evidence but struggle to prioritize it, feedback can be useful. If you cannot substantiate the claim, remove or rewrite it before polishing the language.

Use the resume evidence worksheet to collect examples. A result does not need to be a percentage. Specific responsibilities and outputs are better than fabricated performance figures.

A review fits a workable draft

Choose a review when the basic structure is usable, your target is clear, and you want someone to identify weak positioning or unclear claims. You should have time and confidence to implement written recommendations yourself.

For example, a fictional SDR has accurate dates and relevant experience but several vague bullets. A review may be enough to identify where context and attribution are missing. A full rewrite could be unnecessary if the candidate can make those changes.

A rewrite fits substantial reconstruction

A rewrite is more appropriate when the document needs a coherent narrative, major reorganization, and considerable writing work. You still need to supply accurate source information, answer questions, and review the result. It is not a way to avoid participating in the process.

A fictional career changer may have several strong examples spread across unrelated roles and an unclear document structure. A rewrite may help assemble a role-focused narrative. If the main uncertainty is whether tech sales is the right career, however, start with role research instead.

Compare the deliverables before checkout

Read the current service pages for scope, revisions, turnaround, and required intake. Ask whether the work involves feedback or actual rewriting, what formats are delivered, and which additional items are included. Do not assume all providers use those terms consistently.
