Use this as a working guide, not a passive read. Skim the sections, copy the frameworks, then connect the advice to a real role, interview, call, or account you are working on this week.
A career-change resume should not relabel every previous task as sales. It should prove the behaviors the target role needs: learning, research, clear communication, persistence, process discipline, feedback, and measurable outcomes.
Start With the Target Job
Collect five current postings for the same role level. Build a requirements table and mark each item as proven, adjacent, project evidence, or gap. Keep employer language only when it accurately describes your work.
Translate by Evidence
Recruiting: outreach, qualification, pipeline coordination, stakeholder communication, and follow-up.
Hospitality or retail: customer discovery, recommendations, service recovery, pace, and goals.
Operations: process ownership, cross-functional work, systems discipline, and measurable improvement.
Education: explanation, audience adaptation, planning, feedback, and progress measurement.
Bullet Formula
Use action + audience + difficulty + result.
- Weak: “Used communication skills to help customers.”
- Stronger: “Guided 30–45 customers per shift through product choices, resolved escalations, and documented recurring issues for the store manager.”
- Weak: “Responsible for recruiting outreach.”
- Stronger: “Built and maintained a 120-candidate outreach pipeline, personalized follow-up by role, and coordinated interviews across four hiring managers.”
Use only numbers you can explain.
Add a Clearly Labeled Sales Project
Select ten target accounts, define a buyer hypothesis, cite first-party research, write one call opener and email, and track follow-up in a simple CRM. Remove private information and label the work as a project, not employment.

- Role target visible near the top.
